STATEMENT BY THE DAR ES SALAAM REGIONAL COMMISSIONER IN RESPONSE TO THE ALLEGED ATTACK ON A SYRIAN DIPLOMATIC OFFICIAL:

As the Chairman of the Regional Safety and Security  Committee I have noted with serious concern the information circulating in social media that a Diplomatic Official of Syrian Embassy has been attacked and robbed today afternoon in Dar Es Salaam. The information has gone further to suggest that Dar Es Salaam is not safe and calling upon people to be extra careful. 

May I strongly urge everyone to stay calm and understand that Dar Es Salaam is very safe. The security organs are working on the incident and I have received preliminary report that indicate that it may be an inside job. Still we are following up leads as to why the said Official did not seek police escort while carrying a huge sum of cash and the reasons why the driver is on the run. So far indicators point to the possibility of an inside job. We will not allow some few people to tarnish the image of our region at all.

Once the investigations are in an advanced stage a report will be shared with the public. Security of our people in Dar Es Salaam is of paramount importance.
